When the Lord called Gideon he tried to make excuses. “…O my Lord,” Gideon said, “how can I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house” (Judges 6:15 NKJV).
Does that kind of negative self-talk sound familiar? Have all your efforts to prove yourself, whatever form they may have taken – athletic exploits, financial success, sexual escapades, or even feats of courage – all proven futile? Gideon felt that way too. Yet when the Lord finished with him he was a mighty warrior, a true man of God who delivered Israel.
“God chose things despised by the world…and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important.”
— 1 Corinthians 1:28 (NLT)
Lord Jesus, fulfill Your purposes in our lives. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
