Life on our fallen planet is richly seasoned with sorrow or as one theologian said, “There’s enough sorrow in the most successful life to cause us to question God’s goodness and His competence.” Truthfully, no one goes through life unscathed. Sooner or later we all have to contend with tragedy and its aftermath. We can give into despair, hug our hurts, and make a shrine out of our sorrow, or we can offer them to God as a sacrifice of praise. The choice is ours.
“With Jesus’ help we will continually offer our sacrifice of praise to God.”
— Hebrews 13:15 (TLB)
Lord Jesus, pain and disappointment tempt us to despair. Forgive us when our faith fails and strengthen us in the hour of trouble that we might stand. In your holy name we pray. Amen.
