January 3rd, 2021

A couple of weeks ago I celebrated my 74th birthday. Along the way I’ve learned some things. The most obvious thing I’ve learned is how fleeting life is. It seems only yesterday I was a twelve-year-old boy roaming the South Platte River bottom in Northeastern Colorado, living my own version of Huck Finn. Now I’m seventy-four and I have two wonderful, adult grandchildren. Like I said I got here a lot faster than I would have ever imagined possible.

“What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”

— James 4:14 (NIV 1984)

Lord Jesus, help us to realize how fleeting life is. Help us to make every day count. Help us to remember that only what’s done for You will last. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
