Is guilt always a bad thing? No. It is always painful, but it is not always destructive. True Guilt can drive us to our knees in genuine repentance. It can give birth to heartfelt confession that leads to forgiveness. True guilt is redemptive. It causes us to grieve unspeakably, but it does not abandon us to die in the dark night of our sin. It leads to confession which produces forgiveness.
“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
— 1 John 1:8-9 (NIV)
Lord, hear our confession and forgive our sins and take away our guilt. Amen.
