Recently I compared the church to a ship and then raised the question: “Is it the Kon Tiki or the Love Boat?” On the Kon Tiki, everyone has to work. You row or you’re thrown overboard! On the Love Boat, the majority of the passengers lounge in their deck chairs and enjoy the ride, or they complain about the service. Congregants who view the church as the Love Boat are just along for the ride. Rather than looking for opportunities to serve they expect to be served and/or entertained.
So what about you? Are you part of the crew on the Kon Tiki or just a passenger on the Love Boat?
“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
— Luke 10:2 (NIV)
Lord Jesus, I want to serve. I want to be part of a church that sees itself as the Kon Tiki. Help me. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
