How, you may be asking, can you escape the tyranny of your destructive self-will? First come clean with God. Honestly confess those areas where selfishness and lust control your life. Ask Jesus to break their power for only He can. Work with Him by choosing to resist evil, by choosing to do His will and not your own, by choosing to give Him your absolute allegiance and highest loyalty. Finally,

Almighty God, break my stubborn will. Be ruthless in Your love as you deal with my carnal self. Show no mercy to the “old man.” Crucify him. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
