False guilt is toxic. In extreme cases it can lead to suicide. In his book, Grace Choices, Jeff Lucas shares the tragic story of a young minister who was overwhelmed by false guilt. Although his life was filled with evidence of the Holy Spirit’s sanctifying work he couldn’t see it. He became convinced that he had blasphemed the Holy Spirit and he took his own life. False guilt killed him and it will kill you if you don’t get rid of it. Even if you never commit suicide you will die a thousand deaths, tormented by false guilt.
