Holy Communion provides a picture of the kind of selfless love that the Christian life requires. When Jesus took the bread and broke it, He was demonstrating the kind of love that willingly lays down its life for others. The cup also symbolizes the high cost of forgiveness. Jesus said, “‘This is my blood which is shed for the remission of your sins’” (Mt. 26:28). In the fellowship of believers, each of us will have to lay down our lives for each other. Without this kind of sacrificial love, the church can never become all God intends it to be.
“There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
— John 15:13 (NLT)
Lord Jesus make us willing to lay down our lives. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
