You are probably familiar with the saying, “The handwriting is on the wall.” Did you know it comes from Daniel 5? When King Belshazzar saw the fingers of a human hand writing on the wall of the palace his face turned pale with fright and his knees knocked together in fear. The message was clear. Danger was imminent. He had been weighed in the balance and found wanting. That very night he was assassinated and the Medes and Persians conquered his kingdom.
The question before us today is: “Can you read the handwriting on the wall?”’
“You know how to interpret the weather signs in the sky, but you don’t know how to interpret the signs of the times!”
— Matthew 16:3 (NLT)
Lord, help us to understand the handwriting on the wall. Amen.
