Recently I was working with a congregation that was coming out of a crisis. It was my responsibility to help them move from crisis mode to vision mode. In crisis mode they were focused on survival. Every decision was preceded by questions: “How much will it cost?” “Can we afford it?” “How will we pay for it?” In vision mode the focus is on expansion. Every decision is preceded by the question: “What is the Lord challenging us to do?” Of course, good stewardship requires you to consider the financial questions at some point, but they are of no consequence until you know God’s direction.
Let me leave you with a question: Are you living in crisis mode or vison mode?
“After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.”
— Acts 16:10 (NIV)
Lord, help us to live in vision mode. Amen.
