The final principle for overcoming sexual temptation is count the cost. Do you think for a moment that King David would have committed adultery with Bathsheba if he had stopped to count the cost? Would he have considered the sexual pleasures of a stolen night worth the lifetime of sorrow he suffered? I think not.
“Then Nathan said to David, ‘…Why did you despise the word of the LORD by doing what is evil in his eyes? Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised (the Lord) and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own…‘Out of your own household I (the Lord) am going to bring calamity on you’”.
— 2 Samuel 12:7, 9, 10 (NIV)
Lord Jesus, help us to count the cost lest we succumb to temptation and sin against You. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
