Setbacks, disappointments, and discouragement are an inevitable part of life. You can pretend otherwise but that doesn’t change anything. So how do you move forward? How do you get past your setbacks? First you grieve. At least that’s what David did. When he discovered his home had been burned and his wife and children kidnapped, he wept until he had no strength left to weep (See 1 Samuel 30:3-5). The only way to get beyond your devastating loss is to grieve so go ahead and weep but don’t get stuck there.
“Blessed are those who mourn,
— Matthew 5:4 (NIV 1984)
for they will be comforted.”
Lord Jesus, give us the strength to grieve and the strength to get beyond our grief. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
