If you are in a difficult place, I want to direct your attention to David. When he and his men returned to Ziklag, they found it destroyed by fire and their wives and sons and daughters kidnapped (see 1 Samuel 30). I think it’s safe to say it doesn’t get much worse than that. So, what did they do? First, they grieved. “David and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep” (1 Samuel 30:4). Then “David strengthened himself with trust in his God” (1 Samuel 30:7). And finally, he focused on the future (1 Samuel 30:8).

Lord Jesus, help us to learn from our mistakes lest we repeat them, but don’t allow us to wallow in regret. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
