While writing “East of Eden,” John Steinbeck began each day’s work with a letter to Pascal Covici, his friend and editor. His letters served to warm him up for his day’s work and became a kind of commentary on the novel itself. I can distinctly remember hoping that someday I might have a relationship like that—a friend who shared my love for books and my passion for writing.
God gave me such a friend—Keith Provance, my publisher.
That was 37 years ago and today our friendship is stronger than ever. Why? Because it is built on our shared faith in Jesus Christ, and our mutual appreciation for the written word.
“Jonathan became one in spirit with David, and he loved him as himself.”
