Studies show that most bad investments are made out of greed. A man sees an opportunity to get rich quick and it blinds him to the risks involved. The wise man put it this way: “A hard worker has plenty of food, but a person who chases fantasies has no sense” (Proverbs 12:11 NLT). Inevitably his family suffers the consequences. Proverbs 15:27 (NIV 1984) says, “A greedy man brings trouble to his family…” A wise man makes himself knowledgeable in these matters and conducts business accordingly.

“The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.”

— Proverbs 21:5 (NIV 1984)

Lord, help us to be content without being complacent, to be industrious without being greedy, to be prudent without being obsessively cautious. Above all else give us a thankful heart and a generous spirit. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
