Many have the mistaken assumption that forgiveness is a feeling. It is not. It is an act of the will. The feelings of forgiveness almost never precede the actual act of forgiving. We must, by an act of our will, pronounce forgiveness and only then can we expect to feel the accompanying emotions. If you wait until you “feel” like forgiving those who have sinned against you, you will probably get stuck there. Learn to act out your forgiveness and you will discover a life of joy and freedom.
“Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.”
— Colossians 3:2-3 (NLT)
