If you’re like me, anytime you find yourself judging others you are brought face to face with your own faults. Nonetheless I am tempted to excuse my short comings by giving myself the benefit of the doubt, but when it comes to others, I find myself viewing their failings in the worst possible light. Does that sound familiar? Probably. Remember Jesus said, “‘Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults—unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging’” (Matthew 7:1-2 MSG).
“It’s easy to see a smudge on your neighbor’s face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own.”
— Matthew 7:3 (MSG)
Lord Jesus forgive us and deliver us from a critical spirit. Amen.
