Several years ago, more than thirty now, I was passing through a difficult time in my life. Part of it was my fault, but at the time I couldn’t see that. I simply felt wounded and misunderstood by my peers. Suffice it to say that were it not for some special friends I probably would not be in the ministry today.
That’s the heart of things isn’t it—special friends? In times of sorrow, they comfort us; in times of weakness, they strengthen us; and in times of success, they celebrate with us. Well it has been said,
“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
— Proverbs 17:17 (NIV 1984)
Lord Jesus, help me to be that kind of friend. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
