If we are to fulfill our responsibilities as parents, we must commit to the biblical principles of child rearing, including discipline. Biblical discipline is consistent, the rules are clearly defined, and the consequences for misbehaving are appropriate. Children need to know that every time they are disobedient, they will be punished. That is not cruelty but love, tough love. True biblical discipline is always an expression of love, not anger, and has the child’s best interest at heart.
“Those who spare the rod of discipline hate their children.
— Proverbs 13:24 (NLT)
Those who love their children care enough to discipline them.”
Lord Jesus, forgive us for being inconsistent in disciplining our children. Give us the wisdom and the strength to do what’s best for them regardless of how we feel. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
