When Jesus staggered up the Via Dolorosa toward Golgotha, He was carrying the cross—the instrument of His execution. In His mind, He was already a dead man. In Gethsemane He died to His own will. Now His only passion was to do the will of the Father. So what does it mean to take up our cross and follow Jesus (Luke 9:23)? Does it mean we have to be willing to die to our own will? I think so, and that’s not something we do just once, but daily.
“If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
— Luke 9:23 (NKJV)
Lord teach us to pray not our will, but Your will be done. Amen.
