The third thing Jesus did when His world was falling apart was surrender to the Father’s will. As long as He begged the Father to take the cup from Him, He was in spiritual agony, so much so that “his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground” (Luke 22:44). He experienced peace only when He prayed, “yet not my will, but yours be done” (Luke 22:42).
What was true for Him is also true for us. We will have no peace until we pray, “Not my will, but Yours be done.”
“Jesus offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears…and he was heard because of his reverent submission.”
— Hebrews 5:7 (NIV)
Father God forgive our stubborn self-will. Help us to trust Your wisdom and Your love enough to pray, “Not my will but Your will be done.” Amen.
