Prayer has always been the heart blood of the church. Consider these spiritual giants: Charles Simeon devoted four hours a day to prayer. John Wesley spent at least two hours a day in prayer. John Fletcher often spent the whole night in prayer. Samuel Rutherford was up at 3 a.m. every day to pray. Scottish preacher John Welch thought the day ill-spent if he didn’t spend eight or ten hours in prayer.

“ ‘Take this most seriously … When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action.’ ”

— Matthew 18:18–19 (MSG)

Lord Jesus, help us to believe more, that we may pray more fervently and more faithfully. In Your holy name I pray, amen.
