One of the subtlest temptations we will ever face is the desire to do more for the Lord than He has called us to do. I call that misguided zeal. It is rooted in pride and a desire to be recognized. Resist it with all your strength lest it destroy you.

“Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.”

— Philippians 2:3

Lord, nearly all of us are prone to get ahead of You, to mistake carnal ambition for divine guidance. Slow us down. Teach us to wait on You. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
