As we approach Resurrection Sunday, it behooves us to remember that before His glorious resurrection Jesus suffered a violent death. The High Priest and the Sanhedrin falsely charged Him with blasphemy and condemned Him to death. They struck Him with their fists and mocked Him. They incited the Jewish mob to scream for His blood, demanding that Pilate crucify Him. Pilate ordered Him scourged, and He was beaten nearly to death. Then the Romans crucified him.
“Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God.”
— 1 Peter 3:18 (NLT)
Lord Jesus, like the criminal who died beside you, we pray, “Remember us when You come into Your kingdom.” In Your holy name we pray, amen.
