Someone has said that “if only” are the two saddest words in the human vocabulary. When asked to explain he replied, ‘“If only’ focuses on past failures and sentences us to a lifetime of regret.” He then suggested that we replace ‘if only’ with ‘next time,’ which turns our attention to the future and inspires us to try again. Next time I will be a better friend. Next time I will make better decisions. Next time…

“For though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again”

— Proverbs 24:16

Lord Jesus, thank You for never giving up on us. Teach us to focus on the future and help us to believe we can overcome because You have made us overcomers. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
