It is probably Peter’s failures that most endear him to our hearts, which give us our best hope. If all we knew of Peter were his triumphs he would be an intimidating figure indeed. By the same token, if all we knew of him were his failures he would be forgettable at best. But when we see the whole Peter, with both his strengths and weaknesses, he is an inspiration to all of us. No matter how many times Peter failed, God refused to give up on him. God had a plan for his life and He refused to allow Peter’s repeated failures to compromise His divine purposes.
“For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn; he will never go back on his promises.”
— Romans 11:29 (TLB)
Lord Jesus, redeem our mistakes and complete Your work in us. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
