In some Christian circles the pursuit of prosperity and power has been falsely legitimized. What makes this a difficult issue to address is because God does promise to bless and empower His people. However, at least two things distinguish His blessing from the power-brokering materialism of the world. First, financial blessing and influence are a consequence, rather than a goal. Second, believers are stewards not owners. All wealth and power belongs to the Father. We are simply managing it for Him.

“Tell those rich in this world’s wealth…to do good, to be rich in helping others…If they do that, they’ll build a treasury that will last, gaining life that is truly life.”

— 1 Timothy 6:17 and 19 (MSG)

Lord Jesus, help us to good and to be extravagantly generous in helping others. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
