If you want to see God’s grace in action study the life of Jacob. He was a con man and a thief. He inherited a conniving spirit from his mother and as a young man he conspired with her to dupe Isaac, his blind father and steal his brother Esau’s rightful blessing (Genesis 27:1-38). So what did God do? Did He punish Jacob? No! Instead of justice the Lord bestowed grace (unmerited favor) on him. He gave him a prophetic dream and a promise of future greatness.
“All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring…I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
–Genesis 28:14-15
Lord Jesus, don’t give us what we deserve or we will surely perish. Bless us like you blessed Jacob. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
