If you are just beginning your devotional life, it is important to approach it realistically. Nothing undermines determination faster than repeated failure. That’s why it is so important to make a commitment you can keep no matter how small—even if it’s only sixty seconds each morning. If you decided to take up running, you wouldn’t begin with the Boston Marathon. You would probably start with a graduated training program, working up to longer distances over time. Use that same principle for your devotional life. Start small and build upon your success. Over time you can increase the time you spend in His presence.
“The decrees of the Lord…righteous.
— Psalm 19:9, 11 (NLT)
By them your servant is warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.”
Lord help us establish our devotional life. Amen.
