Because temptation flourishes in secret it is important to have a trusted spiritual friend in whom you can confide. Your friend should be spiritually mature and emotionally whole. He should be a person whose personal relationships are in good order. He should be well grounded in the Word of God. He should model the kind of behaviors you seek to develop in your own life: faithfulness, submission to godly authority, spiritual disciplines, trustworthiness, and self-control.

One word of caution. Never trust a person who tells you another person’s secrets. If he betrays that person’s confidence, he is likely to betray yours as well.

“…avoid a man who talks too much.”

— Proverbs 20:19 (NIV 1984)

Lord Jesus give us wisdom to choose our friends and courage to confide in them. Amen.
