Prayer neutralizes the tempting lies of the enemy by refocusing our attention on God. In the secrecy of the imagination, where self is king, the beguiling suggestions of the deceiver are mesmerizing, even hypnotic. But when we enter the presence of God, we see them for the tawdry things they really are. Prayer puts “this moment” of temptation into eternal perspective.
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
— Matthew 26:41
Lord Jesus, life has a way of crowding the eternal right out of our thinking. We become preoccupied with the here and now. Nothing matters but our immediate gratification. Teach us to pray, for only prayer can realign our lives. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
