Justification is the finished work of Jesus Christ. It is what he did for us. Sanctification is the continuing work of Jesus Christ. It is what He is doing in us by the power of His Holy Spirit through the washing of the Word. Justification makes us perfect forever (Hebrews 10:14). It changes our standing before God. Sanctification is a progressive work whereby our daily walk is being redeemed. We are being made holy. It is a cooperative effort between our will and His grace.

“We have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all…For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.”

— Hebrews 10:10 and 14 (NIV)

Lord Jesus, complete Your work in us. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
