1 Samuel 18:1 says, “Jonathan became one in spirit with David…” That oneness of spirit might well be called chemistry, and it plays a vital role in all great friendships. Yet, chemistry alone cannot sustain a relationship. It may be the spark that ignites it but only commitment can sustain it. Sooner or later your friendship will be tested. Without a commitment, you will be tempted to slide off sideways and begin a new relationship rather than digging deep in order to renew your friendship.

“A friend is always loyal,
and a brother is born to help in time of need.”

— Proverbs 17:17 (NLT)

Lord Jesus, make me the kind of friend who is always loyal. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
