For sixty-one years, three months, and one day my mother and father remained completely devoted to one another. So how does anyone build a marriage like that? To last marriage must be built on something more than romantic love. That “something more” in my parent’s case, was a shared faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It sustained them when the inevitable tough times came. In addition, you have to be able to communicate honestly. Or to use my mother’s words, “You have to be able to talk about everything.” Not just the easy things, but everything—your secret dreams, your hurts, your hopes, your disappointments, and even your fears. Finally, you have to be willing to forgive each other.

“…forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

— Ephesians 4:32 (NIV 1984)

Lord Jesus, renew our marriages and make them everything You intend them to be. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
