I remember a longtime member of our congregation, whose health no longer permitted her to attend services. She lived across the alley, just south of the church. Each week I went to her home and shared the midweek Bible study. Today I suppose we would send her a CD, but somehow I don’t think it would be the same. Not for me anyway, for without those weekly visits my theology of the Church would be sadly lacking. She taught me that the Church isn’t just a weekly worship service, but a holy fellowship where people really care about each other.
“Most of all, love each other as if your life depended on it…Be quick to give a meal to the hungry a bed to the homeless—cheerfully.”
— 1 Peter 4:8-9 (MSG)
Lord Jesus, give us a servant’s heart and help us to love as if our lives depended upon it, for surely they do. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
