Do you know the legend of the Cherokee Indian youth’s rite of passage? His father takes him into the forest, blindfolds him and leaves him alone. He is required to sit on a stump the whole night and not remove the blindfold. Finally, after a horrific night he removes his blindfold and discovers his father sitting on the stump next to him. He had been at watch the entire night, protecting his son from harm.
We are never alone no matter how isolated we may feel. Even when we don’t know it, our Heavenly Father is sitting on the stump beside us.
“When you pass through the waters,
— Isaiah 43:2-3 (NIV)
I will be with you;
…For I am the LORD your God.”
Lord Jesus, no matter how dark the night I will not fear for You are with me. Amen.
