On July 4, 1952, Florence Chadwick attempted to swim the 26 miles from Catalina Island to Long Beach, California. The waters of the Pacific were cold, sharks swam nearby, and a dense fog made it impossible for her to see the California coast. After 15 hours she was exhausted and despite repeated encouragements from her coach, she gave up. When she realized that she had been only half a mile from shore when she quit, she said, “If I could’ve seen the land, I could’ve made it.”
Keep your eye on the goal and you will make it. Lose sight of your goal and despair will tempt you to give up.
“Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it…he never lost sight of where he was headed…”
— Hebrews 12:1-2 (MSG)
Lord Jesus, help me focus with laser like vision on the finish line. Amen.
