Experience has taught me to carefully weigh the criticism I receive, separating that which is valid from that which is not. Even the most sincere person is capable of interjecting his personal feelings into a situation; therefore, I am careful not to accept everything carte blanche. On occasion I have found it beneficial to discuss the criticism with a third person to get a more objective view. When it is appropriate make the corrections that are required. It is seldom easy to admit that we are wrong, especially if it means reversing a decision or changing a public policy, but it is absolutely mandatory.

“He who heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray.”

— Proverbs 10:17 (NIV)

Lord, my need to be right makes it hard for me to accept criticism. Forgive me and change me. Amen.
