We buy things never realizing that if we are not careful, they will end up owning us. Sometimes it gets so bad we can’t give up our “things” not even to save our soul. Jesus warned us about materialism when he told the story about a rich farmer who said to himself, “‘What should I do? I don’t have room for all my crops.’ Then he said, ‘I know! I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones…’ But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for’” (Luke 16:15-21).
Then [Jesus] said,
“A person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.”
— Luke 16:15 and 21 (NLT)
Lord Jesus, help us to have a rich relationship with You. Amen.
