Although I do not practice the spiritual traditions that my father passed on to me in exactly the same way he did, the spiritual values and benefits remain intact. For instance, I seldom pray alone in the living room as my father did, but I have made it a regular habit to drive to the church for early morning prayer. And when our daughter was still at home I would often kneel beside her bed after she was asleep and pray for her. For my wife and me, a shared prayer is often the last thing we do before shutting out the light at the end of the day. These are the spiritual traditions I learned from my father.

“Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children.”

— Deuteronomy 6:6 (MSG)

Lord, help me to pass on the spiritual traditions that were given to me. Amen.
