Isaiah described Jesus as a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief (Isaiah 53:3), yet He was also a gregarious person whose name was at the top of every guest list. If he was present, the host need not worry; the party would be a success. His winsome smile and contagious laughter transcended all social barriers turning a roomful of strangers into friends. He was a captivating conversationalist, entertaining hearers with penetrating insights and humorous antidotes. Yet beneath His outgoing personality His heart ached, always ached, for those who were hurting. He carried humanities pain in his bosom even when he was enjoying a meal with friends, or laughing with children, or celebrating at a wedding.

“He was…a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief.”

— Isaiah 53:3 (NLT)

Lord help us become authentic human beings who share both the joy and the sorrow of others. Amen.
