We are living in dangerous times. Never in my lifetime have I seen the level of anger and animosity that permeates society. Civil discourse is virtually impossible and social media is filled with disrespect, even hatred. Christians are not immune. Tragically some of the most toxic rhetoric comes from so called Christians. Does Jesus have a word for us? I believe He does: “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you that you may be sons of your Father in heaven” (Matthew 44-45).

“If you see your enemy hungry, go buy him lunch;
if he’s thirsty, bring him a drink.
Your generosity will surprise him with goodness,
and GOD will look after you.”

— Proverbs 25:21-22 (MSG)

Lord, we are tempted with anger, and we want to lash out at those who disagree with us. Forgive us and fill our hearts with love. Amen.
