I want to encourage you to take a moment and see Jesus—not the flannel graph Jesus of your Sunday School days or the stained-glass Jesus of later years, but the real Jesus. Notice the way He gives his undivided attention to the person He’s talking to no matter who they are lunatic or leper, Samaritans, or street people, or even a fallen woman caught in the very act of adultery. Notice the way the children flock around him, how easily He’s moved to tears by the suffering of others, and how gentle He is toward those who have been battered and broken by life.

“When he looked out over the crowds, his heart broke.”

— Matthew 9:36 (MSG)

Lord help us be gentle with those who have been battered by life. Amen.
