Have you ever wondered why God hardened Pharaoh’s heart time and time again (Exodus 4:21)? To my way of thinking the Lord had two or three obvious reasons. 1) To demonstrate His great power to both the Egyptians and the Hebrews (Exodus 11:9). 2) To exalt Moses in the eyes of the people so they would follow him (Exodus 11:3). 3) To cause Pharaoh to take his anger out on the slaves making their lives even more unbearable (Exodus 5:6-18). If Pharaoh had not done that it’s unlikely the Israelites would have been willing to defy him and risk following Moses.

Lord, help us to learn from the past so we don’t repeat its mistakes. Amen.
