God’s love is unconditional (John 3:16, Rom. 5:8-10, Rom. 8:35-39) but salvation is not (John 3:17-18, Acts 2:38 and Acts 16:30-31). The security of our salvation rests on what Jesus has done for us. The proof of our salvation is the righteous life we live in obedience to Christ (Eph. 2:8-10). God loves us unconditionally, but He will not fellowship with us unless we walk in the light (1 John 1:6-7). And God’s unconditional love will not save us from eternal judgement if we reject Jesus and continue to sin willfully (Heb. 10:26-31).
“God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him.”
— Romans 5:8 (MSG)
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
