On at least one occasion Moses spent forty days and nights alone with God. When he descended the mountain and approached the people, they were terrified because the skin of his face glowed. Exodus 34:29 says, “…his face was radiant because he had spoken with the LORD.” The same thing happened each time he went into the “tent of meeting” where “The Lord would speak to [him] Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend” (Exodus 33:11). Think of it. The infinite God who is unlike any other reveals Himself to Moses as the intimate God who speaks face to face, as one speaks to a friend.

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”

— James 4:8 (NKJV)

Lord, be nearer to us than the breath we breath. Amen.
