There are some who believe that God sends the troubles that plague us, but I cannot conceive of our loving heavenly Father doing something like that. Perhaps He allows them. For certain, He redeems them—that is, He touches them with His Spirit, transforming them into instruments of grace that work for our eternal good. Of course, this does not make our troubles painless, but it does give our pain purpose. What the evil one intended for our destruction, God has redeemed and is now using for our eternal good.

Lord Jesus, help us to trust Your wisdom and Your love. Help us submit to Your discipline that we may become the men and women You have called us to be. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
