Prayer locks the door against the thief who comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). It neutralizes his tempting lies by refocusing our attention on the Lord. In the secrecy of our imagination, where self is king, the beguiling suggestions of the deceiver are mesmerizing, even hypnotic. But when we enter the presence of God, we see them for the tawdry things they really are. In prayer we see the Lord, high and lifted up, and His glory fills our being. In prayer our mind is renewed and transformed, and we are able to resist the enemy of our souls.

“We demolish arguments…and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

— 2 Corinthians 10:5 (NIV)

Lord Jesus teach us to pray so we can resist the enemy. Amen.
