On the night Jesus was betrayed He told the disciples to watch and pray lest they fall into temptation (Matthew 26:41). Their intentions were good but they were physically and emotionally exhausted and instead of praying they slept. Instead of locking and bolting the doors into their lives through prayer they succumbed to exhaustion and left their lives unguarded. As a result, the “thief” was able to come in and steal their faith. The scripture says, “all the disciples deserted him and fled” (Matthew 26:56).

What about you? Are you carefully guarding your life through prayer, or have you left the doors into your life unlocked and unguarded?

“Dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit”

— Jude 20 (NIV 1984)

Lord Jesus, help us to set a guard over our lives through prayer. Amen.
