It’s terribly painful to admit that the problem we face is our sinfulness. It’s not circumstances, nor temperament, nor personality, not even the sinful thing we have done, but it is us – our sinfulness. Painful? Yes. But it is also good to have called it by its rightful name – sin – because having fearlessly owned our own sinfulness; we can now be forgiven and transformed.
“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
— 1 John 1:8-10 (NIV)
Lord Jesus, I have no excuse, no self-justifying explanation. I am a sinner and You are my only hope. Forgive me and change me. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
